SHELBY COUNTY MAYORAL CANDIDATE LEE HARRIS EARNS ENDORSEMENT FROM STAND FOR CHILDREN
Stand For Children cites Harris’ willingness to prioritize “educational needs of our children.”
Memphis (June 21, 2018) – Today, Stand for Children endorsed Lee Harris, Democratic nominee for Shelby County Mayor. Stand for Children branded Harris an “Education Champion” in a list of Democratic and Republican candidates who it asserts will fight “for our children and our future.”
State Senator Lee Harris participated in an interview with Stand for Children and over a dozen panelists, including current and retired educators, administrators, parents and youth. Together, the body decided to endorse Lee Harris against his opponent who also participated in the process.
Lee Harris, a product of local public schools and parent of two children in public schools, has made education the centerpiece of his campaign for mayor, a decision that he believes will serve as a foundation for less crime, more college and career-ready youth, and stronger families.
“I appreciate Stand For Children for asking the tough questions to learn more about where the candidates stand on education, youth engagement opportunities, transportation, and poverty in Shelby County. By properly funding education, from pre-K to STEM learning to vo-tech, we will graduate a generation of children who are able to get a job no matter what. I’m happy to have the support of Stand for Children as we fight for education.”
